Martha Buckley

Family is so important!  I loved hearing how Martha Buckley’s life has come full circle.  From spending time with her grandparents to sharing with her grandchildren!

I may be biased since I am one of Martha’s sisters but I just want to say that I feel fortunate to be reaping the benefits of my sister’s passion for quilting. The quilt she gave me is so much more than a “pretty keepsake.” First of all, it’s impossible to look at it without thinking of her and the work she put into it. But then what usually happens is (especially since I live away from home), I’ll find myself smoothing over her quilt lovingly with my hands which then in turn brings to mind Mom, Dad, siblings, grandparents, my childhood and so many other precious memories. A quilt provides warmth on a cold day, but I personally think that warmth we feel comes from a quilt’s ability to remind us of family. And my sister Martha captures that in her beautiful works of he(art).

Martha is my mother, and I so enjoyed listening to this interview. The memories that mom’s quilts will bring in years to come will always keep her close to us. I have so many great memories of spending time with mom and learning to quilt also. Sharing in the joy that quilting brings and being able to learn and quilt with her will be memories that I will cherish the rest of my life, and yes I proudly display every quilt that she has ever made me, mistakes and all, although she is the only one that sees the mistakes. lol
